Aligning with the Seasons: Spring (with a Guided Meditation) | episode 08

aligning with the seasons: spring (with a guided meditation) a life differently ronni hill

Have you ever felt the shift from winter to spring—not just in the weather, but in your body and mind?

That gentle awakening, where the days grow longer, the sun feels warmer, and something inside you starts to stir again?

That’s the energy of spring—the natural cycle of renewal and rebirth—and it's something we’re meant to align with. But in a society that values hustle over rest, how do we embrace this shift without falling back into the cycle of burnout and overproduction?

In this episode of a life differently, I’m diving into the power of seasonal cycles—how nature’s rhythms mirror our own, why rest is essential for growth, and how to tap into the natural energy of spring without forcing or pushing.

The Awakening of Spring

After months of shorter days and colder nights, spring arrives like a soft but undeniable push toward movement and creation. Trees start budding, flowers bloom, and the energy of new beginnings fills the air.

"Spring is nature’s reminder that growth doesn’t have to be forced."

This shift isn’t just happening outside—it’s happening within us too. Just like the earth wakes up after winter’s stillness, our minds and bodies naturally crave more energy and activity as the seasons change.

But here’s the challenge: we live in a society that’s completely out of sync with this rhythm. Even in the dead of winter, we’re expected to keep grinding. Productivity is king, and slowing down is seen as weakness.

By the time spring arrives, instead of feeling refreshed and ready to bloom, many of us feel exhausted and drained. The key to reclaiming that natural sense of renewal is learning to honor these cycles—both in nature and within ourselves.

Rest as the Foundation for Growth

I learned this lesson the hard way last winter.

In December, I had to have unexpected surgery. It forced me to stop—completely. For two weeks, I couldn’t push through, couldn’t work, couldn’t "stay productive." I had to rest.

"As much as I hated it, it ended up being exactly what I needed."

For the first time in my life, I allowed myself to lean into rest. I slept more, moved less, and let my body recharge. And honestly? It made a difference.

By the time spring arrived, I felt it differently. My energy was coming back. My mind felt clearer. I felt more creative and open to possibility. The stillness of winter laid the foundation for this expansion.

This is what nature teaches us: without a period of rest and rejuvenation, there isn’t enough energy to bloom again. Growth requires stillness first.

Honoring the Cycles of Energy

Seasonal cycles mirror our personal cycles of energy. The same way nature shifts from winter’s stillness to spring’s renewal, our bodies and minds need time to ebb and flow.

But the challenge is resisting the pressure to force it. When spring energy starts to rise, it’s easy to fall back into hustle mode.

"Spring invites us into movement—but that doesn’t mean we have to push."

So how do we align with this natural energy without falling into the trap of overproduction?

Here are a few small but powerful ways to honor the energy of spring:

1. Pause and Notice the Shift

On your lunch break or while walking to your car, take a moment to notice the sun on your skin, the sound of birds chirping, the smell of fresh flowers. Let yourself feel the shift.

2. Bring Spring Indoors

Open your windows. Buy fresh flowers. Light a candle with a bright, spring-like scent. Small environmental shifts can create a deeper sense of renewal.

3. Eat Seasonally

Spring is a time for berries, greens, and citrus. Foods that are naturally in season carry vibrant energy—and they taste better too.

"I love watermelon in the summer—it just hits differently when it’s in season."

4. Follow Your Energy

If you feel inspired to create, let yourself follow that spark. If you feel the need to rest, give yourself permission to slow down. Let your energy guide your actions instead of forcing yourself into someone else’s rhythm.

Cultural Cycles of Renewal

This transition from winter to spring isn’t just personal—it’s something cultures around the world have honored for centuries.

  • Norooz – The Iranian New Year marks the arrival of spring and the true beginning of the year. It’s a time of renewal and cleansing.

  • Holi – In India and Nepal, Holi celebrates spring’s arrival with vibrant colors and the triumph of good over evil.

  • Passover – The Jewish holiday reflects themes of renewal and liberation.

  • Easter – In Christian tradition, Easter represents resurrection and new life.

  • Ke Ala`ula a Kane – In Hawaiian culture, this marks the shift from winter’s reflection into spring’s action and creation.

  • Ostara – The pagan holiday honors the return of warmth and light, symbolizing balance and rebirth.

"We are wired to feel this shift because it’s happening all around us."

Let Growth Be Easy

Spring teaches us that growth doesn’t have to be hard. It’s not about pushing—it’s about flowing with the natural energy of the season.

"Your growth is allowed to take time, to be intentional, and to be imperfect."

As you move through the next few weeks, notice the shifts in your energy. Honor what your body is asking for. Whether you feel inspired to start something new or drawn to rest, trust that both are part of the process.
